Learn safe and effective exercise techniques, injury prevention, client coaching strategies, program design and begin working directly with clients; both individuals and groups in a strength training environment.
Module Overview
The Weight Training Module is the second step in swagÂ鶹’s A–Z Personal Trainer Program, designed for those who want to advance their fitness knowledge in a strength training environment.
In this module, you’ll move beyond theory into hands-on practice. Learn the principles of resistance training, proper exercise technique, and how to design safe and effective programs for diverse populations. You’ll gain valuable skills in spotting, equipment use, client assessment, and injury prevention, all taught by experienced, industry-certified instructors.
Completion of this module prepares you to challenge the BCRPA Weight Training Instructor Competency Evaluation (ICE), a key step toward competing this specialty and personal trainer certification.

Module Requirements
Module (2) Prerequisites:
- Fitness Theory Module and Exam (BCRPA) pass (proof required)
- First Aid/CPR Certification
- Registered Fitness Leader with the BCRPA and/or 1st-year Fitness Registration.
Module Recommended Materials: Resources are available online via Blackboard and in the DC Library. Students may purchase materials independently, but this is not required.

- Vella, M. (2006). Anatomy for Strength and Fitness Training: An Illustrated Guide to Your Muscles in Action. McGraw-Hill.
Note: Come dressed in fitness wear for classes.
Module Completion Requirements: Upon completing Module 2, students will be guided through the required item below; these items must be completed after the Weight Training Module by the student to be eligible to move forward into the Personal Training Module (3).
- Retake of BCRPA WT ICE evaluation
Students are responsible for scheduling and payment for any ICE retakes. Completing BCRPA prerequisite: 12 Program Log
Students are responsible for completing the 12 Program log as a prerequisite by the BCRPA to move into the-swagÂé¶¹ supports students by offering: Fitness Centre access to registered WT students to complete the (BCRPA 12-Program Log) prerequisite for Personal Training Module.
Theses are NOT part of the Module fee and students are required to register and purchase these on their own; payment directly to external institutions, bodies and/or persons.
Additional Note: Students who wish to take only specific modules, such as Weight Training, to pursue other specialties are not required to complete the sequencing of the A-Z Personal Trainer Program.
Module Cost
The cost of the Weight Training Module (2) is $600,00 +GST and includes:
- Weight Training in-person classes held at swagÂé¶¹ (New Westminster Campus).
- Weight Training ICE (BCRPA) in-person evaluation, held at swagÂé¶¹ (New Westminster Campus).
- Online materials via Blackboard
*Module fees are subject to change.
Bonus: Fitness Centre access (BCRPA 12-Program Log) prerequisite for Personal Training Module — full use of state-of-the-art recreation facilities with cardio machines, free weights, and strength-training equipment.
Please note: Any additional fees are not included in the module fee.

To register for modules in the program, students must contact the Continuing Education Registration Office (CE Reg):

Complete the registration form and submit it to cereg@douglascollege.ca via email.
Specify the CRNs of the modules you wish to register for in the form. CRNs can be found on the individual module pages.
Ensure you enter all CRNs for your chosen module. Please read the additional instructions provided on the registration form.
After submitting your completed form, a Registration Officer will respond with further instructions on payment options.
Once registration is processed, you will receive an email with payment instructions. Students must submit payment within 24 hours to complete registration. Students will only receive a payment confirmation email receipt once payment is received.
Registration is not complete until payment has been received by swagÂé¶¹. A confirmation email receipt will be sent once payment is processed.
